Q – What is ‘SEO’?
A – ‘SEO’ stands for Search engine optimisation and is the art of getting a website ranked at the top of the natural search results within Google, Yahoo and Bing for the best search terms to generate business.
Q – What is ‘PPC’?
A - PPC stands for ‘Pay per click’ and relates to advertising on the search engine results pages and throughout their ‘Partner network’ of websites. The most widely used PPC suppliers are Google Adwords, Microsoft Adcenter and Yahoo Search Marketing but there are many others out there.
Q – What is ‘Analytics’s’?
A – Analytics is a website monitoring service offered by Google, the tool tracks visitors to a website and tells us all sorts of useful information such as – how many visitors we have had, what pages they look at, how long they stop on the site plus what search term and search engine they used to find the site. as well as this we can also use Analytics to track sales and enquiries to show us what search terms and channels produce the best results and even give us accurate costs per acquisition and returns on investment.
Q – What is ‘Traffic Intelligence’?
A – Traffic intelligence is a new service that not only tells us what search term and channel is used to find your website but goes one step further and gives us the name, address, telephone number, web address and business information on the companies that are looking at you in real time. Big brother has arrived!
Q – What are ‘SERP’s’?
A – ‘SERP’s’ stands for ‘Search Engine Results Pages’ and are the pages of results shown by making a search for something in a search engine like Google.
Q – What is a metatag?
A – A metatag is a piece of code that contains data relating to the content of the page including metatitle, metakeywords and metadescription plus other information that is used by the search engines.
Q – What is a metatitle?
A – A metatitle is the title tag for your page, this title is shown as the first line in the search results and also displayed in the blue bar at the top of your browser window. This is also the most important place to insert your targeted keywords.
Q – What is a metadescription?
A – A metadescription is a short description of the content on a page and is usually shown in lines 2 and 3 of the search results.
Q – What are metakeywords?
A – The metakeywords tag used to be used to show the keywords that you associated with a page but is no longer used by all the search engines. It is still advisable to use the tag correctly as some search engines do still use it.

A – FTP ( File Transfer Protocol) is a protocol or program used to connect a PC to a web server and used to upload and download files from one to the other.

A – HTML (Hyper Text Mark up Language) is a programming language used to make fixed brochure type websites.

A – A CMS is a ‘Content Management System’ this is a database driven web solution that allows you to access it via an online control panel and make changes to the content and images etc. There are many types of CMS offering many differing levels of control over the content.

A – Link building is the art of getting other sites to link to yours to make your site rank higher in the search engine results pages.
